Polyurethane adhesives have a high degree of activity and polarity. They have excellent chemical adhesion with base materials containing active hydrogen, such as foam, plastic, wood, leather, fabric, paper, ceramics and other porous materials, and materials with smooth surface such as metal, glass, rubber and plastic.
Vehicles are intended to be used in a variety of climate conditions. Rain, snow and ice are just a few examples of the bad weather that vehicles must be able to withstand. Polyurethane sealants are waterproof, weatherproof and have good resistance to chemical corrosion, so they are widely applied in the bonding of the window glass and the body of automobiles.
In the automotive industry, new materials are being developed to lighten vehicles and increase their impact and corrosion resistance. However, not all kinds of sealants will adhere to these materials. The advantage of polyurethane sealants is their ability to adhere to a wide variety of substrates without primer. This makes it possible to seal aluminium, glass, lacquered metal and even some plastics. Meanwhile, polyurethane sealants can be painted and frosted without compromising their effectiveness. In fact, it is even recommended to paint them, since the paint layer applied will provide additional protection against the harmful effects of UV rays. Thus, they are also widely applied in automotive trims.

Usually, automobile maintenance has a high requirement on time because clients want to repair their vehicles as soon as possible without influencing their daily life. Polyurethane sealants do not flow linked and can fast cure at ambient temperatures, and they have high viscosity and can be suitable for various base materials. Therefore, polyurethane sealants can meet the requirement of saving time of automobile maintenance market, and they become the first choice in repairing vehicles.
