Insulating glass refers that two or more lights of glass are spaced apart and hermetically sealed to form a single unit with an air space between each glass. It is often abbreviated IG and is sometimes called double-glazed or double-pane glass. This unit is normally used for windows, window walls, sliding doors, patio doors and skylights for commercial buildings and residential construction. Insulating glass is not only aesthetic but also practical, which have good properties of heat insulation and sound insulation.
The most used way to seal two pieces of glass is the double channel sealing structure. Firstly, two pieces of glass are separated by article interval, and the gaps between the glass and the article interval are sealed by butyl rubber to prevent moisture transfer into airspace. Then, the gaps between the glass edge and article internal should be bonded by the secondary sealant to hold unit together. The secondary seal mainly adopts silicone sealants.
Silicone sealants are formulated with different functional group structures in the organic silicon polymer main chain, they have stable structure and can keep the performance level of their initial specifications for many years. Meanwhile, they have the advantages of moisture-proof, UV-resistance, anti-corrosion, high and low temperature resistance and strong tensile strength. In brief, silicone sealants can keep the structure of insulating glass stable and prevent it from aging.
