The Difference Between Weatherproof Silicone Sealant And Structural Silicone Sealant

During the construction process, various adhesives and sealants are used for bonding and sealing, such as silicone weather-resistant sealants and silicone structural sealants. 

The appearance of weather-resistant sealants and structural sealants often looks the same, and there are always people who can't tell the difference between the two. Whether they use weather-resistant sealants as structural sealants or use structural sealants as weather-resistant sealants, will affect the quality of construction projects.

The difference between silicone structural sealant and silicone weather-resistant sealant:

Silicone weather-resistant sealant is mainly used for sealing and caulking between materials, while silicone structural sealant is mainly used for bonding. The two are used in different places.

In addition to the characteristics of weather-resistant sealants, silicone structural sealants also have stronger bonding properties than weather-resistant sealants, mainly in tear resistance, elongation at break, tensile strength, and tensile strength. Strength is mainly used in pre-stressed areas.

Structural adhesive is used for bonding structural and non-structural assemblies of various curtain walls, while weather-resistant adhesive is mainly used for waterproofing and sealing joints.

The modulus, hardness, strength and price of structural adhesives are higher than weather-resistant adhesives of the same grade, but the elasticity of weather-resistant adhesives is higher than structural adhesives.

Use of silicone structural sealant and silicone weather-resistant sealant:

Weather Resistant Sealant

1. Suitable for weather-resistant sealing of various curtain walls, especially recommended for weather-resistant sealing of glass curtain walls, aluminum-plastic panel curtain walls, and dry-hanging stone;

2. Seam sealing between metal, glass, aluminum, ceramic tiles, organic glass, and coated glass;

3. Seam sealing of concrete, cement, masonry, rock, marble, steel, wood, anodized aluminum and painted aluminum surfaces. In most cases there is no need to use primer.

Silicone structural sealant

1. Mainly used for structural or non-structural bonding devices between metal and glass of glass curtain walls.

2. It can directly connect glass to the surface of metal components to form a single assembly component, meeting the design requirements of curtain walls with fully or semi-hidden frames.

3. Structural bonding and sealing of insulating glass.
