Sealant can be waterproof in a short period of time, but it will not be waterproof over time. Because all things like sealant cannot be soaked in water for a long time. If soaked for a long time, its sealant will disappear, resulting in degumming. The same principle applies to sealant. It is mainly used to fill the structural gaps and play a sealing role.

The main component of sealant is polymer, which has good adhesion and flexibility. It can fill and seal the gaps between different materials and play the roles of waterproofing, moisture-proof, dust-proof and sound insulation. In some home decoration and construction projects, sealants are often used in areas prone to moisture such as kitchens and bathrooms, balconies, and basements to prevent moisture penetration and leakage problems.
However, since the main function of sealant is to fill gaps, when encountering high water pressure, the sealant may not be able to withstand the pressure, resulting in water leakage. In addition, sealant has a certain lifespan, and over time, sealant ages, hardens, and loses its elasticity, thereby reducing its waterproofing capabilities. Therefore, sealants can only have a short-term waterproofing effect. For long-term waterproofing requirements, other measures need to be taken to reinforce and protect.
Compared with sealant, glass sealant is more reliable in waterproofing effect. Glass sealant is a special structural sealant, which is composed of organic silicon material and silicate as the main components, and has extremely strong water resistance. Glass sealant can maintain good adhesion and elasticity in humid environments, and can effectively resist moisture penetration and leakage problems. Therefore, glass sealant is a better choice in places where long-term waterproofing is required, such as bathrooms, swimming pools, etc.
Of course, whether it is sealant or glass sealant, you need to pay attention to some details when using it. First, choose a good quality product to ensure it has good sealing and water resistance. Secondly, during the construction process, you must strictly follow the instructions for use to ensure that the sealant fully fills the gaps. Finally, regular inspection and maintenance are required, and aging and damaged sealant should be replaced in time to ensure its waterproof effect.
In summary, sealant can play a certain waterproofing role in the short term, but it is not effective in the long term. In comparison, glass sealant has a better waterproof effect. However, no matter what kind of sealant is used, users need to pay attention to product quality, construction operations and regular maintenance to ensure the durability and reliability of the waterproofing effect. At the same time, in actual use, appropriate sealant materials should be selected according to specific needs to meet the waterproofing needs of different places and environments.
