Learn how to use liquid nails construction adhesive correctly. Step-by-step instructions for bonding wood, metal, and building materials.

Liquid Nails is a high-strength adhesive suitable for permanently bonding various materials such as tiles, baseboards, drywall, backsplashes, and crown moldings. If you are new to using it, just follow these simple steps to complete your bonding task easily.

1. Choose the Right liquid Nails Type
Select the appropriate type of Liquid Nails based on your needs, such as general purpose, fast-drying, or heavy-duty. There are three types of TENGYU nail free glues, hope you can select which one you need. The details are as below:

2. Cut the Nozzle Tip
Use a utility knife to cut off the tip of the nozzle. The size of the cut determines the adhesive flow: a small bead requires a cut of about 1/8–1/4 inch (0.3–0.6 cm), while a larger bead may need a 1/2 inch (≈1.3 cm) cut.

3. Puncture the Inner Seal
Insert a nail or pin into the nozzle to break the inner seal. Otherwise, the adhesive will not flow out.

4. Load into a Caulking Gun
Pull back the plunger of the caulking gun, insert the tube, and secure it. If you don’t have a caulking gun, you can squeeze manually, but using a gun is easier and ensures more even application.

5. Dispense the Adhesive
Aim the nozzle at the surface and squeeze the trigger slowly. Liquid Nails dispenses quickly, so practice controlling the flow before you start.

6. Apply in a Zigzag Pattern
Apply the adhesive in a zigzag pattern with about 4 inches (10 cm) between turns to ensure even coverage. For heavy objects, apply two overlapping zigzag lines; one line is sufficient for small items. Add more adhesive as needed while applying.

7. Stop the Flow
Release the trigger and press the release lever at the back of the gun to retract the plunger and stop the flow. When pausing, cover the nozzle with a plastic bag or cloth.

8. Curing Time
Standard Liquid Nails sets in about 15 minutes and fully cures in 7 days. You can reposition materials within the first few minutes, but it becomes difficult afterward. After 7 days, the bond is permanent.

9. Cleaning and Removal

Wet adhesive: Water-based types can be cleaned with water; solvent-based types require mineral spirits.

Dried adhesive: Soften with a blow dryer and scrape off with a putty knife.

By following these steps, you can use Liquid Nails efficiently and achieve a strong bond.
