One-component silicone sealants are the most commonly used on construction sites because of their convenience. They cure by reacting with moisture in the air, starting from the surface and gradually moving inward. Depending on environmental conditions such as temperature and humidity, as well as the thickness of the sealant, full curing may take up to two or three weeks.
Two-component silicone sealants are typically used in factory-controlled environments where speed and efficiency are essential. After the two components are mixed, the sealant cures evenly throughout the entire bead, allowing for a much faster curing process. In many cases, full curing can be achieved within just a few days, making them ideal for large-scale applications such as curtain wall production.
Selecting the wrong silicone sealant can lead to serious problems, including poor adhesion, material incompatibility, corrosion, and long-term performance failure.
