How to choose door and window sealant?
1. Where is door and window sealant used and what is its function?
Silicone Sealant construction is one of the necessary processes for door and window installation. The construction location is mainly at the connection between the door and window frame and the outer wall, the inner and outer sealing of glass installation, or the connection position between the door and window frame and the outside of the frame.
The sealant used in home improvement doors and windows mainly plays the role of sealing, waterproof, and beautiful closing (the curtain wall sealant may have a load-bearing function).

2. Know the product name of door and window sealant
Door and window silicone sealant is a relatively general term. As far as door and window sealants are concerned, the following concepts can be roughly understood by distinguishing products:
a. Silicone sealant: Silicone sealant can be understood as the main component of door and window glue, and the glue for doors and windows is also called silicone sealant.
b. Structural silicone sealant & weather-resistant silicone sealant: This is a major category of door and window sealants, namely silicone sealants, which are usually indicated on the outer packaging. The performance focus of the two sealants is different: structural sealant focus on bond strength, and weather-resistant sealant focus more on anti-displacement and expansion.
c. Neutral sealant & acid sealant: This is a smaller category of glue for doors and windows, such as neutral silicone structural sealant and acid silicone weather-resistant sealant. In terms of performance, there is almost no difference between the performance of neutral sealant and acid sealant, but the content of other ingredients in the sealant is slightly different. Acid sealant will have a pungent smell (it will evaporate in a few days under normal circumstances), and it will dry faster.
3. Choose structural sealant or weather-resistant sealant?
Sealants are used for various positions of home improvement doors and windows, usually weather-resistant sealants:
a. Structural sealant focus on the bonding strength, and are mainly used in the bonding position between glass and profiles of curtain wall. For example, the glue used for home decoration doors and windows only needs the glue to be resistant to displacement and stretching, sealed and waterproof, and weather-resistant.
b. Although the emphasis on performance is different, it does not mean that structural sealants do not have the above properties. Taking displacement and stretching as an example, some big-name structural sealants may have better performance than non-branded ones.
4. Choose neutral sealants or acid sealants?
There is no necessary connection between neutrality, acidity and the performance and environmental protection of the sealants, and it will not affect the subsequent use (the acidic smell will dissipate within a few days under normal circumstances).
