Car windshield sealant is very important for the safe driving of the car. When hit, the car windshield will absorb huge impact force and must be firmly bonded to the car body and cannot fly off the car body. When a traffic accident occurs, the firmly bonded windshield must have sufficient strength. To support and protect the safety of passengers, this places high demands on the sealant that bonds the glass and body.

Windshield sealant absorbs vibration and impact, improving the overall running performance of your vehicle. Polyurethane windshield adhesive is an important product in the automotive glass bonding and sealing process. According to statistics, polyurethane sealants are currently used for bonding passenger car windshields; more and more passenger cars, especially high-end luxury bus manufacturers, have also promoted the implementation of polyurethane bonding for windshield and side window glass bonding and sealing. Process technology.

Windshields have very strict requirements for sealants to ensure the overall rigidity of the car body. Its design requirements can be divided into the following five aspects:

(5) Meet the overall rigidity of the car body and increase the rate of change when the glass breaks

According to the requirements of the automotive industry standard QC/T 1024-2015 'One-component polyurethane sealant for automobiles', the basic performance of one-component polyurethane sealant for automobiles must meet the tensile strength ≥ 6.0MPa, and must pass heat resistance, resistance to Humidity and heat resistance, artificial climate accelerated aging (xenon arc lamp), water resistance and other aging resistance tests.

How to use polyurethane windshield sealant

When applying polyurethane sealant for windshields, the emphasis is on 'three-part material, seven-part construction'. Good construction is an important guarantee for the sealant product to fully exert its excellent performance. Before gluing, be sure to conduct an adhesion test between the sealant and the base material to determine the bonding effect between the sealant and the base material, and select appropriate cleaners and primers.

Gluing process:

(1) Surface cleaning: Improve the adhesion between polyurethane sealant and substrate.

(2) Apply primer: Improve the adhesion between the polyurethane sealant and the base material.

(3) Gluing and installation: Before gluing, the glue nozzle needs to be cut flatly into a triangular opening with a knife. The inner diameter (R) of the glue nozzle should be determined according to the bonding design width. Conventional: side windows 6mm-8mm; front and rear windshields 10mm-12mm. The height of the triangle (H) is twice the design thickness (h) of the bonding.

During the final operation, the sealant will deform as follows when pushed.

(4) Other operations and requirements:

The window glass should be assembled immediately after gluing, and it should be assembled on the car window no later than 20 minutes. The gap should be adjusted and try not to move. The glass should then be fixed with pressure-sensitive tape or other clamps. Gluing and bonding work generally takes 8-12 hours to reach a certain strength. Before that, it is strictly forbidden to apply other deformation forces to the workpiece.
